Sponsor Refugees
When your group chooses to sponsor a refugee or refugee family through Canadian Lutheran World Relief, you are choosing to extend help to people who are trying desperately to escape a terrible situation. These people will become your friends and neighbours, and will add to your community—but also will have their own unique needs and issues.
As a sponsor you are taking on a certain set of responsibilities. These include:
- Arranging their new residence and initial basics like appropriate food and clothing.
- Picking them up from the airport and bringing them to their new home.
- Introducing them to their new community and educating them about the basics of living here.
- Helping them access government services and programs.
- Ensuring their concerns and questions are handled properly.
While there will be some cost involved, CLWR will be the umbrella sponsor for the refugees and will provide a base of financial support that offsets rent, food and other essentials. There are specific obligations that your group and the refugees must agree to. Please contact us directly for more information.
