Make a We Care Kit or Quilt
![]() |
Making We Care kits together is a great activity for groups of all ages. |
For many Canadians, the We Care program is a tangible way to make a difference in the world. The We Care program of Canadian Lutheran World Relief collects donated clothing, school supplies and other important items for shipment overseas.
Through our We Care program, donors are asked to choose one of seven kits to assemble with a prescribed list of items. CLWR offers sturdy cotton bags in which to pack the kits; these can be ordered directly from CLWR for a suggested donation of $5 to help defray shipping costs of the finished kit to its final destination.
Here is how the We Care program works:
- Order your We Care bags from CLWR. Call 1.800.661.2597 or email clwr@clwr.mb.ca.
- Assemble one of seven standard kits according to the We Care brochure. (Please note: The We Care brochure is undergoing revisions. The new brochure will be available by the end of January)
- Attach a shipping form to your kit(s).
- Send the completed kit(s) to CLWR via one of the free shipping options listed on the We Care brochure.
- ship kits and quilts to 549 King Edward Street, Winnipeg, MB R3H 0N9
- financial donations to cover cost of overseas shipping should be sent to 302-393 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B 3H6
The We Care program is unique from those of other organizations, because CLWR ensures that donated goods are:
- Useful: Due to cultural and environmental differences, some items we consider useful here in Canada may not be useful to impoverished communities. By donating only those items on a We Care kit list, you can be confident that your donation is doing the most good possible.
- Consistent: By sending shipments that consistently contain the same items, our partners overseas can reliably anticipate how many people they can help with each shipment.
- Fair: Since kits contain the same items, recipients in a community are all treated equitably.
