Refugee sponsorship training course available this fall
Want to learn more about what’s involved in sponsoring the resettlement of a refugee in your community? If so, why not register for a free internet-based course being offered this fall by the Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP). The course, which begins on September 21 and runs to November 23, is divided into eight modules. Topics covered include a global overview of forced migration, eligibility requirements, the application process and settlement planning.
There is no charge for the course but participants must register by September 14. For more information about the course and to download a registration form, please visit www.clwr.org/What-We-Do/refugee-resettlement.cfm.
In 1979, the Canadian government began allowing groups to sponsor refugees through Sponsorship Agreement Holders such as Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR). Over this time, Lutherans across Canada have worked through CLWR to sponsor close to 12,000 refugee applications. RSTP exists to assist agreement holders in the refugee process. For more information about RSTP, visit www.rstp.ca.
CLWR announces Global Encounter 2010 to the Middle East
Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) will offer a Global Encounter experience this coming January. Global Encounters offer our constituents opportunity to visit areas of the world where CLWR is engaged in development programming. The destination of the next Global Encounter will be Israel and Palestine.
Participants will interact with CLWR partners in the region, the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, and experience first-hand the religious, political, social and cultural context of the region.
The 15-day trip will be hosted by Robert Granke, executive director of CLWR. As an added bonus, it will include three days in Geneva with visits to the international headquarters of the LWF and the World Council of Churches.
The registration fee will be $6000. Deadline for registrations is October 1. For more information and to download a registration form, please visit www.clwr.org.
