Lenten Calendar - Hot Item

Thousands of 2006 CLWR Lenten calendars have been been going out to ELCIC and LCC congregations and Sunday school groups across the country. The demand was so high CLWR had to request a second printing.

There's still time to place your order before Lent. These 11 x 17 colour calendars offer children and families an opportunity to learn, pray and act as they "Walk with Christ for Others."

People have already been commenting favourably about the 2006 version. "We think they are a great blessing to people." "You've outdone Lutheran World Relief - USA this time!" "This is a great idea for Lent. We especially like the suggestions for prayer and the Act of Kindness." "We are excited to use the 2006 Lenten Calendar's to encourage people in their walk with Christ for others."

Time is running out - order today.

60th Anniversary Insert Available

On March 12 and 19, congregations across Canada will be celebrating their partnership with CLWR in various ways. Some will be hosting coffee times after worship, using fair trade coffee purchased from CLWR. Others will be setting up displays, providing people with information about CLWR's projects around the world.

To assist congregations in marking this occasion, CLWR has designed a simple 60th anniversary bulletin insert. The insert is copy-ready and will be sent as a PDF to any congregation requesting it.

We encourage you to find ways to recognize the international ministry of CLWR within its ongoing partnership with the ELCIC/GHDA and the LCC.

Word from Mozambique

CLWR supports a variety of projects in Mozambique within Tete province. Each month, Philip Wijmans, program director, sends a report on what has been happening. Here is a summary of his report.

Farmers are still ploughing their fields, and planting seeds, some of which were distributed in December (5000 seed packs). Some farmers had to plant seeds twice because of erratic rains. Many people are hungry and resort to eating fruits from the forest, other manage to buy some maize meal from Zambia in exchange for some of their animals. Day after day the price of maize is fluctuating from $7-11 (CDN).

In some areas diarrhoea has been increasing, and some coughs as well. In some areas there is shortage of water.

The situation is politically calm, but 5 houses belonging to government workers in Fingoe were burned by unknown people. This situation is alarming and has left people worried.

In Tsangano district there are frequent land disputes due to lack of land. Traditional leaders solved 10 cases.

Training on natural resource conservation, leadership, HIV and food security were carried out in Chifunde and Maravia. Three wells were constructed in Tsangano (Gifts from the Heart).

One of the staff members, Rosta Isaias (Namadende) has passed away after illness and another staff member, Armindo Xavier is seriously ill in Maputo. Please remember them in your prayers.
