New International Program Director joins CLWR team
Elaine Peters, CLWR’s new International Program Director, commenced her tenure at the Winnipeg office this week. When asked to reflect on these first few days she says, “I have learned much about the tremendous contribution that CLWR is making in Canada and globally to support people’s spiritual, physical and material well-being. I look forward to working with the staff, volunteers and constituency that are committed to CLWR’s vision and mission of an equitable and peace-filled global community.”
Peters will be responsible for the overall management and coordination of CLWR’s international development program, including coordination of the CLWR program team as well as links with CIDA and international partners such as the Lutheran World Federation and ACT International. Additionally, Peters will engage in programmatic aspects of long-term development, emergencies, relief and rehabilitation for the Asian region.

Volunteers here… volunteers there… volunteers everywhere!
Whether in one of the CLWR offices or in congregations across the country you are sure to find volunteers lending a helping hand to CLWR projects. They are a diverse group of folk with all kinds of skills—women, men, retirees, teenagers, couples, individuals, groups, long-time Lutherans, newcomers to Canada… and the list could go on. Some volunteer a few times a week, others just once a month or for a few days when they are needed most.
The Winnipeg office is regularly abuzz with people doing administrative tasks, sorting We Care kits, or unpacking and labelling Four Corners merchandise. In the Toronto and Vancouver offices recent refugee arrivals often offer a helping hand as a way of aiding others in unfamiliar circumstances and paying forward the assistance offered to them. People from coast to coast are volunteering their time to coordinate Four Corners consignment sales, particularly as the holiday season approaches.
It is certainly not all work and no play—laughter often spills out of the workroom as friendships are forged among volunteers and with staff. Community takes shape as people get to know one another and share their interest in the work of CLWR.
If you would like to offer a helping hand in your area, please do not hesitate to call 1.800.661.2597 to express your interest. We welcome and value your support. Thank you to all our volunteers!
