Canadian Foodgrains Bank
Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) and twelve other religious organizations make up the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB).
CFGB was organized in 1983 to provide a way for Canadian farmers to donate grain to feed the hungry around the world. Over the years, it has expanded to include community growing projects which combine the cash resources of urban supporters with donations of material and labour by the farming community.
Contributors to CFGB may designate their gifts to CLWR's account. Like donations to the development projects of CLWR, both grain and cash donations are matched by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). Undesignated gifts accumulate in the general account of CFGB and are available to support projects of the thirteen member organizations. The members often pool their resources to respond to emergency food shortages.
The staff at CFGB administer the donations in Canada and assist local communities with the organization of growing projects and other fundraising activities. They are also experts in shipping and supervising the delivery of the food aid to its final destination.
