Development and Peace: Strengthening Communities Around the World
Canadian Lutheran World Relief supports programs and projects that will help improve the quality of life for those struggling against poverty. This is often referred to as long-term development. Long-term development is CLWR's commitment to walk with people over an extended period of time so that poverty-reducing actions can become sustainable.
To this end, Canadian Lutheran World Relief gives special attention to strengthening communities by:
- Promoting strong leadership and local organization among the people being served
- Reducing poverty through improved healthcare, education, agricultural practices, employment opportunities and environmental conservation
- Affirming the important role that women contribute to the overall well-being of the community
- Facilitating peace building opportunities
In Asia and Africa CLWR partners with the Lutheran World Federation in implementing long-term development programs and projects. In South America CLWR facilitates development programming through its office in Bolivia. Information about the programs and projects CLWR supports can be found below.
