CLWR's Involvement in Bolivia
Description of Program
Canadian Lutheran World Relief's program in Bolivia began as a cooperative venture with Lutheran World Relief - USA. In the early 1990's, however, CLWR began operating independently and opened its own office in Santa Cruz. From Santa Cruz, staff work with local non-government agencies (NGO's) in four locations within Bolivia: Chuquisaca (Sucre), La Paz, Potosi and Santa Cruz.
The primary thrust of CLWR's program is to strengthen grassroots organizations and communities, in particular the indigenous people who make up 60-70% of the population, many of whom are also the poorest. CLWR's programming among these people involves some of the following: leadership and organizational training for men and women, citizenship education, reforestation, sustainable agricultural and land use practices, conflict resolution, and cultural preservation.
