Canadian Lutheran World Relief supports a variety of projects in Bolivia. Each of these contributes to building up the capacity of local people and their communities to address some aspect of poverty. By engaging any one of these projects Canadians are supporting an entire program designed to make poverty history. Follow the links below to learn more about specific projects within Bolivia.
  • Leadership and Organizational Training Projects
  • Canadian Lutheran World Relief trains small groups, communities and leaders in Bolivia to operate their own projects and participate in local government.

    Project: Training Financial Managers
28 people need training in financial management so that they can better assist their groups being good stewards of their financial resources.
Cost: $77 is an estimated cost for training one person.

    Project: Training Small Group Leaders
32 groups require training in leadership, organizational skills and the inclusion of women so that they can more effectively manage and operate their community projects.
Cost: $77 is an estimated cost for training one person.

  • Human Rights Projects
  • Canadian Lutheran World Relief supports the training of indigenous Bolivians in human, legal, environmental and cultural rights. It is hoped that such training will enable these people to more fully participate in the political structures of their country and thereby influence decisions related to their communities.

    Project: Making Things Right
500 members of indigenous groups require training that will empower them to better represent their people as they seek access to basic human rights.
Cost: $75 is the estimated cost for training one person.

  • HIV/AIDS
  • In Bolivia, the prevalence of HIV/AIDS is relatively low and limited to a few high-risk populations, primarily in urban centers. Canadian Lutheran World Relief's projects are mainly focused on rural areas and therefore, CLWR is not currently supporting any HIV/AIDS programs in Bolivia.

  • Health Projects
  • In this poorest of South American countries, with its many isolated mountain and jungle communities, proper healthcare is a major challenge. Child, infant and maternal mortality rates are the highest on the continent; tuberculosis and chagas disease are common and malaria is endemic in the jungle areas. However, in CLWR's project areas, healthcare has not been identified as the major issue and therefore, CLWR is not currently supporting any health programs in Bolivia.

  • Education Projects
  • In Bolivia CLWR provides non-formal education opportunities for adults to enhance communication among indigenous peoples.

    Project: Radio Education
CLWR would like to provide 1000 adults with access to adult education on legal, human, gender and cultural rights trough organized radio programs in the local Chiquitano language.
Cost: $25 is the estimated cost of enabling one person to be educate through these radio programs.
