India Projects

Canadian Lutheran World Relief supports a variety of projects in India. Each of these contributes to building up the capacity of local people and their communities to address some aspect of poverty. By engaging any one of these projects Canadians are supporting an entire program designed to make poverty history. Follow the links below to learn more about specific projects within India.
  • Leadership and Organizational Training Projects
  • Canadian Lutheran World Relief trains small groups, communities and leaders in India to initiate and direct community development projects so that they are sustainable.

    Project: Establish a Group
    30 groups are being established every year to initiate and manage sustainable development projects in their communities.
    Cost: $45 is an estimated cost for establishing one group.


    Project: Training Small Group Leaders
    300 people each year require training in leadership and organizational skills so that they can more effectively manage and operate their community projects.
    Cost: $14 is the estimated cost for training one person.


  • Human Rights Projects
  • Canadian Lutheran World Relief supports projects in the South 24 Parganas rural district that train people in basic human and civic rights so that they can better address the root causes of poverty within their communities.

    Project: Participaction
    48 groups need to be trained so that they can participate in local government structures and thereby influence issues related to the social condition of the poor.
    Cost: $85 is the estimated cost of providing training for one group.


  • HIV/AIDS
  • Canadian Lutheran World Relief supports HIV/AIDS initiatives that involve the treatment and prevention of this disease, along with counselling and palliative care to communities in the South 24 Parganas rural district of India. It is hoped that these approaches will provide proper care and a life of dignity for those affected by HIV/AIDS.

    Project: Train an HIV/AID Worker
    125 people need to be trained annually to facilitate HIV/AIDS prevention programs.
    Cost: $50 is the estimated cost of training one HIV/AIDS worker.


  • Health Projects
  • Canadian Lutheran World Relief supports health initiatives that seek to improve water conditions, sanitation, and basic healthcare services to communities in the South 24 Parganas rural district of India. It is hoped that these approaches will lead to healthier households.

    Project: Clean Water Initiative
    5 communities will be assisted in developing cleaner water systems.
    Cost: $40 is the estimated cost of providing one household with clean water.


    Project: Training for Health
    25 healthcare workers will be trained each year to provide healthcare services to communities without healthcare services.
    Cost: $900 is the estimated cost of training one healthcare worker.


  • Education Projects
  • Canadian Lutheran World Relief is providing adults and children in the South 24 Parganas district with improved access to basic education and literacy.

    Project: Adult Literacy Education
    CLWR will provide 43 teachers and 500 students with access to environmental education.
    Cost: $6 is the estimated cost of providing one student with environmental education.
