Canadian Lutheran World Relief supports a variety of projects in Mozambique. Each of these contributes to building up the capacity of local people and their communities to address some aspect of poverty. By engaging any one of these projects Canadians are supporting an entire program designed to make poverty history. Follow the links below to learn more about specific projects within Mozambique.
  • Leadership and Organizational Training Projects
  • Canadian Lutheran World Relief trains small groups, communities and leaders in Mozambique to initiate and direct community development projects so that they are sustainable.

    Project: Training Group Managers
10 committees will be trained in financial management and marketing skills so they can better assist their groups in selling agricultural goods.
Cost: $800 is the estimated cost for training one committee.

    Project: Establish a Group
10 groups are being established to initiate and manage sustainable development projects in their communities.
Cost: $45 is an estimated cost for establishing one group.

  • Human Rights Projects
  • Canadian Lutheran World Relief does not currently support any human rights projects in Mozambique.

  • HIV/AIDS
  • Men in Mozambique continue to stay away from home as migrant labourers that work in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi. Some stay away for three years before returning home. In many of these countries the HIV/AIDS rates can be even higher than 30%. Men that stay away from their families for long periods are at extreme risk of contracting the virus, and bringing it back to their families.

People with AIDS are also more vulnerable, given the recurrent problem of food shortage that weakens their nutritional status. In communities assisted by CLWR, the HIV/AIDS infection rate among 15-50 year olds may already be over 15%, and higher among women only.

Canadian Lutheran World Relief supports HIV/AIDS education initiatives in the Tete area.

    Project: Bring HIV/AIDS Awareness
CLWR plans to bring essential information about HIV/AIDS to 2500 households.
Cost: $25 is the estimated cost of helping one household understand the cause of HIV/AIDS.

  • Health Projects
  • Canadian Lutheran World Relief supports healthcare initiatives that address HIV/AIDS education and prevention in the province of Tete. It is hoped that these approaches will lead to healthier households.
