Rice means opportunity for Danigué
At first, Danigué Boïdo didn’t realize that rice could grow in her community in southeastern Chad.
Water shortages are common where she lives in Toukra, often leading to poor harvests. “Financial difficulties prevented us from buying food,” said Danigué. “We suffered greatly.” But that changed when Danigué received training in climate-resilient farming techniques. With that knowledge, she was able to establish a business growing and selling rice.
“We now have enough to eat. I am very grateful because I can now send my children to school,” said Danigué. “Rice has been a true blessing for us.”
And your impact didn’t stop there. After receiving additional training, Danigué became the treasurer of a new village savings and loan association. Members of this group each contribute a portion of their earnings to create an informal bank. They can then give out small loans from the pooled money so people can purchase land for crops, helping more people support themselves through farming. With a loan from this group, Danigué was able to purchase land suitable for growing and is working on building her own home.
Your support is helping communities thrive. Thank you for equipping people like Danigué!
