World Refugee Day events in Canada

World Refugee Day is recognized across Canada and around the world as a time to honour the strength, resilience and contributions of refugees. This year, it also comes as Canada’s refugee sponsorship system faces growing pressure — today sponsorship organizations are facing longer wait times, a pause in certain sponsorship streams and a 54% reduction in available sponsorship spaces.

Across the country, communities, partners and organizations are coming together in solidarity through local gatherings, conversations and events that highlight both the importance of refugee protection and the urgent need to sustain Canada’s private sponsorship program.

If you are looking for ways to mark World Refugee Day, we invite you to explore events and reflections from communities across Canada as they come together in solidarity this year.
