Help refugees find safety, dignity and a new beginning
Families flee war and persecution. Children arrive in unfamiliar lands. Communities are displaced by conflict and disaster. For refugees seeking safety and a fresh start, your support today helps them rebuild with dignity in Canada.
For millions of refugees, there is no safe place to go
From Gaza to Sudan to Myanmar, families are forced to flee their homes in search of safety every single day. Many spend years in limbo — without status, without resources, and without hope. Your support changes that.
No Safe Shelter
Families who fled conflict live in overcrowded camps or makeshift shelters — exposed to disease, violence, and the elements.
Children Out of School
When children are forced to flee, their education is cut short — trapping a generation in poverty with no path forward.
Women at Risk
Displaced women and girls face heightened risk of gender-based violence, exploitation, and lack of access to basic health care.
CLWR’s Approach: Safety, Dignity & A New Start
Sponsorship & Resettlement
CLWR is a sponsorship agreement holder with the Government of Canada. Through CLWR, congregations and community groups can sponsor refugees as they come to Canada and find a new home in peace and security. We connect compassionate sponsors with families in need, ensuring they have the support network essential for successful resettlement.
Education & Skills Training
Economic self-sufficiency is essential for successful integration. We connect refugees with language programs, vocational training, and employment opportunities that match their skills and experience. Our partners help bridge credential recognition and workplace adaptation, enabling refugees to contribute meaningfully to Canadian communities.
Trauma Support & Mental Health
Refugees often carry the emotional weight of displacement, loss, and trauma. Our partners provide psychosocial support, mental health counseling, and trauma-informed care to help people recover and rebuild hope for the future.

Who is Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR)?
Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) is a Canadian humanitarian organization working to end hunger, fight poverty and build resilient communities around the world. Founded in 1946 to assist refugees after World War II, we bring more than 75 years of experience in emergency response and long-term development.
While rooted in the Lutheran tradition, we serve people based on need, regardless of faith, background, or nationality; partnering with trusted local organizations to create lasting change.
What is CLWR's role in refugee resettlement?
CLWR is a sponsorship agreement holder with the Government of Canada. This means that through CLWR, congregations and other groups can help sponsor refugees as they come to Canada and find a new home in peace and security. We coordinate the sponsorship process, connect sponsors with refugee families, and provide ongoing support for successful integration.
Sponsors commit to providing financial support, housing, and community integration for a refugee family during their first year in Canada. CLWR helps coordinate this process, ensuring sponsors have the resources and guidance they need. Sponsors become the personal connection that helps newcomers navigate a new country.
